Household Changes

You may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period if, within the past 60 days, you or someone in your household experienced one of the following:

  • Marriage: If you got married, select a plan by the last day of the month, and coverage can begin on the first day of the following month.

  • Birth, adoption, or foster care: If you had a baby, adopted a child, or placed a child in foster care, coverage can start on the date of the event, even if you enroll up to 60 days after.

  • Divorce or legal separation: If you got divorced or legally separated and lost your health insurance as a result, you may qualify. However, divorce or separation alone without loss of coverage doesn't make you eligible for a Special Enrollment Period.

  • Death: If someone on your Marketplace plan passed away and this led to the loss of your current health coverage, you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.
