Medicare Open Enrollment

Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (10/15-12/7)

Written By Jerdon Johnston

Happens every year from October 15 through December 7

The AEP offers you a vital window to review your current Medicare plan and make any necessary changes for the upcoming year. During this period, you can make adjustments to your Medicare Advantage Plan or your Prescription Drug Plan (Part D). Whether your healthcare needs have changed or you're looking to lower your costs, this is the time to ensure your coverage aligns with your goals.

Schedule Getting Started Appointment

Key Changes You Can Make During AEP:

  • Switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage Plan: If you are on Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) and want more comprehensive coverage, such as vision, dental, and hearing, switching to a Medicare Advantage Plan may be a good choice.

  • Switch from a Medicare Advantage Plan to Original Medicare: If you feel a Medicare Advantage Plan no longer meets your needs, you can return to Original Medicare.

  • Change Medicare Advantage Plans: If you are already enrolled in a Medicare Advantage Plan but want to switch to another one that better fits your current needs, you can do so.

  • Adjust Prescription Drug Plans: If you’re unsatisfied with your current prescription coverage or your medication needs have changed, AEP is the time to update your Prescription Drug Plan.

Why It's Important to Review Your Plan Annually

Your healthcare needs and financial situation may change from year to year. Additionally, Medicare plans themselves can change in terms of coverage, premiums, co-pays, and provider networks. Even if you're happy with your current plan, it’s essential to review the changes and ensure it still offers the best value and coverage for your needs.

How to Get the Most Out of AEP:

  • Review Your Current Plan: Start by reviewing your plan's Annual Notice of Change, which outlines any changes to your coverage or costs for the upcoming year.

  • Evaluate Your Healthcare Needs: Have your healthcare needs changed? Are there new medications you’re taking, or do you anticipate new treatments or procedures in the coming year?

  • Compare New Plan Options: Even if you're satisfied with your current plan, it's worth comparing it to other available options to ensure you’re not missing out on better coverage or savings.
